South Carolina GOP Attorney General Alan Wilson released a Parental Rights Guide for the new school year on Monday, including laws to equip parents regarding their children's education.

The release of the guide follows a federal court ruling last week that permitted a transgender student access to a bathroom for the sex they claim to be, rather than their biological sex, in violation of a South Carolina law. Wilson's office said that it "is currently examining the next steps in its appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court."

Also, just days into the state's school year, there have been reports of an elementary school teacher in Dorchester County who posted disturbing, violent art on social media, resulting in them being placed on administrative leave.

"Attorney General Wilson is fully committed to using the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office to lead the fight to protect children and parental rights. Parents are key partners in this fight and will always be the last and best line of defense for their children," the attorney general's office said.

"To further this partnership, Attorney General Wilson is encouraging parents, students, teachers, and school administrators to remember several key parental rights under South Carolina law and federal law as the school year progresses."

The office's website includes parents' rights to be involved in their children's education; rights for students to have their speech protected regarding other students or teachers' transgender pronouns; safety in public school restrooms and changing rooms; to read age-appropriate material; and for parents to know who is teaching their children and if their children are transitioning to another gender at school.
