Trump meets with Intel CEO days after he called on the man to resign
The president did not state what the meeting entailed or why he called on the CEO to resign last week, but said Ta would be meeting with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent again in the future.
President Donald Trump on Monday said that he met with Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, along with some of his Cabinet members, days after the president called for the executive to resign for being "highly conflicted."
The president did not state what the meeting entailed or why he called on the CEO to resign last week, but said Tan would be meeting with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent again in the future.
The meeting and calls for his resignation came after Republican Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton expressed concern about the CEO's ties to China. Reuters previously reported that Tan had investments in hundreds of Chinese tech firms, including some connected to the Chinese military. But Trump did not state whether the meeting or calls were related to Cotton.
"I met with Mr. Lip-Bu Tan, of Intel, along with Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent," Trump posted to Truth Social. "The meeting was a very interesting one. His success and rise is an amazing story. Mr. Tan and my Cabinet members are going to spend time together, and bring suggestions to me during the next week."
Intel said the meeting was related to the company's commitment to "strengthening U.S. technology and manufacturing leadership," according to The Hill. “We appreciate the President’s strong leadership to advance these critical priorities and look forward to working closely with him and his Administration as we restore this great American company."
Tan has defended himself against the criticism, claiming he has “always operated within the highest legal and ethical standards.”
