Defiant Biden pushes back on authors of book documenting his mental decline

“You can see that I’m mentally incompetent, I can’t walk and I can beat the hell out of both of them,” Biden joked. “Why didn’t they run against me then? Because I’d have beaten them.”

Former President Joe Biden on Friday shot back at the two authors of "Original Sin," which details his mental decline during his presidency, stating he could "beat the hell out of both of them."

CNN's Jake Tapper and Axios' Alex Thompson co-authored the book, which was released this month. It focuses on the former president's health toward the end of his term and the alleged scheme his administration concocted to hide it.

Biden asked reporters in Delaware why Democrats decided not to run against him in 2024, if they were concerned about his mental competence and health. Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips, a Democrat, did initially run against the former president.

“You can see that I’m mentally incompetent, I can’t walk and I can beat the hell out of both of them,” Biden joked. “Why didn’t they run against me then? Because I’d have beaten them.”

The comment comes after the former president announced he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. His office has insisted he was never diagnosed with the disease until earlier this month.
