Biden undergoes Mohs surgery to remove cancerous skin cells

Former President Joe Biden recently underwent Mohs surgery to remove cancerous skin cells on his forehead, his personal office confirmed to multiple news outlets Thursday.

It is not clear when the former president underwent the surgery, or what kind of skin cancer he had, but doctors previously found a cancerous skin lesion on Biden's chest in 2023 that was revealed to be basal cell carcinoma, one of the two most common forms of skin cancer. Biden also had basal cell carcinoma before he became president.

Basal cell carcinoma is also treated with Mohs surgery, according to NBC News, which removes layers of cancerous skin tissue until all cancerous cells are gone.

The former president is recovering from the procedure well, his office said. 

Biden was also diagnosed with an advanced form of prostate cancer earlier this year, which also spread to his bones. The prostate cancer is not untreatable but is considered incurable.
