Judge to temporarily block Trump administration ban on Harvard hosting foreign students
President Trump has recently made numerous efforts to get Harvard to make changes including getting tougher on antisemitism and ending Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies.
A federal judge in Boston said Thursday that she plans to temporarily block the Trump administration from revoking Harvard University's certification to host foreign students.
The court order, known as a "temporary injunction," is issued to prevent a party from taking any actions that could cause harm until a final judgment is reached. It was issued by Allison D. Burroughs, who was appointed to the bench by former President Barack Obama.
President Trump has recently made numerous efforts to get Harvard to make changes including getting tougher on antisemitism and ending Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies. The Ivy League school has agreed to make some changes to keep federal funding but has posed legal challenges to others.
Burroughs already granted Harvard a temporary restraining order last week, preventing the government from revoking the school's certification in the Student and Exchange Visitor Program. The program permits the university to host international students with F-1 or J-1 visas to study in the U.S., according to Fox News.
At Thursday's hearing, Burroughs said the block on the Trump administration would stand for now, the news outlet also reports.
