White House press secretary Leavitt given Secret Service protection: report

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has recently been given Secret Service protection, according to a recent news report.

The protective detail comes after the assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk, CBS News reported, citing unnamed sources.

Leavitt declined to comment to the media outlet, and the Secret Service has not yet responded to a request for comment.

Meanwhile, Congress is considering providing $58 million in additional funding to increase security for executive and judicial branch officials.

While it is uncommon for press secretaries to have Secret Service protection, it was previously given to Sarah Huckabee Sanders in 2018, after she was refused service at a restaurant in Lexington, Va.
