First lady Melania Trump sent a legal notice to former first son Hunter Biden earlier this month regarding a recent "false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statement" about her alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein, Fox News reported Wednesday.

The first lady's legal team demanded that Biden "immediately retract the false, defamatory, disparaging and inflammatory statements made about Mrs. Trump," which was made during a video interview and posted to YouTube earlier this month.

Trump's team said if Biden did not immediately remove and retract the content and publicly apologize for the comment by Aug. 7 he would face legal action of over $1 billion in damages. A source told Fox News that he did not meet the deadline.

During the video interview Biden claimed Epstein introduced Melania Trump to her now-husband, President Donald Trump, and highlighted that the connection between the first lady and Epstein is "so wide and deep."

"These false, disparaging, defamatory, and inflammatory statements are extremely salacious and have been widely disseminated throughout various digital mediums," Melania Trump's attorney Alejandro Brito wrote. "Indeed, the video has since been re-published by various media outlets, journalists, and political commentators with millions of social media followers that have disseminated the false and defamatory statements therein to tens of millions of people worldwide."

Biden's comment occurred after the Daily Beast published a grossly inaccurate article detailing the first lady's alleged ties to Epstein, which has since been retracted and removed.

"Despite this, you have unjustifiably relied upon [the Daily Beast's] false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements about Mrs. Trump and maliciously elected to republish them," Brito wrote. "The timing of this video is evident and underscores the actual malice behind the decision to publish it given the plain falsity of the statements.

"Given your vast history of trading on the names of others—including your surname—for your personal benefit, it is obvious that you published these false and defamatory statements about Mrs. Trump to draw attention to yourself," he added.

The letter comes after James Carville also apologized to the first lady for his own comments on the Epstein story.
