Rubio arrives in Israel, says his focus is on hostages, humanitarian aid, end of Hamas
Netanyahu and Rubio are expected to discuss Israel's plan to seize control of Gaza City.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Israel Sunday morning to meet with top government officials including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a social media post ahead of his flight, Rubio said his focus will be on "securing the return of hostages, finding ways to make sure humanitarian aid reaches civilians, and addressing the threat posed by Hamas."
"Hamas cannot continue to exist if peace in the region is the goal," he also said in the post.
Netanyahu and Rubio are expected to discuss Israel's plan to seize control of Gaza City, the largest city in the Gaza Strip, according to ABC News.
Israel last week ordered residents to evacuate, saying the Israeli military would operate "with great force" within the city, the news network also reports.
