On Saturday, former President Trump announced plans to impose a 10% tariff on several countries that have deployed military forces to Greenland, as part of his ongoing campaign to annex the Arctic island.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump named Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland as the targets of the tariffs, which are set to begin on February 1, 2026. He added that the tariff rate would increase to 25% starting June 1 and would remain in place "until such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland."

Trump has argued that the United States must take control of Greenland for national security purposes.

“It is imperative that, in order to protect Global Peace and Security, strong measures be taken so that this potentially perilous situation end quickly, and without question,” he wrote.
