President Trump announced that a 30% tariff on imports from the European Union and Mexico will start on August 1.

Trump told the European Union in a letter that the U.S. trade deficit was a national security threat and that the trade relationship between the two countries isn't reciprocal.

“We have had years to discuss our Trading Relationship with The European Union, and we have concluded we must move away from these long-term, large, and persistent, Trade Deficits, engendered by your Tariff, and Non-Tariff, Policies, and Trade Barriers,” Trump wrote in the letter to the EU on Saturday. “Our relationship has been, unfortunately, far from Reciprocal.”

Trump said Mexico has to do more to stop North America from becoming a “Narco-Trafficking Playground.”
