President Donald Trump on Thursday evening said he would appoint Judge Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. Attorney for Washington D.C., just hours after he pulled his first choice, Ed Martin.

The decision to pull Martin's nomination came after North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis, a Republican, said he would not support Martin's confirmation. The Senate was also facing a May 20 deadline to confirm Martin.

Pirro, a Fox News anchor and former Westchester County judge and district attorney, is a close ally of Trump's and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

"I am pleased to announce that Judge Jeanine Pirro will be appointed interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia," Trump posted to Truth Social. "During her time in office, Jeanine was a powerful crusader for victims of crime. Her establishment of the Domestic Violence Bureau in her Prosecutor's Office was the first in the Nation. She excelled in all ways.

"Jeanine is incredibly well-qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York. She is in a class by herself," he added.

Pirro currently co-hosts Fox News' "The Five," and previously hosted her own show on the network "Justice with Judge Jeanine" for a decade.

“Jeanine Pirro has been a wonderful addition to 'The Five' over the last three years and a longtime beloved host across FOX News Media who contributed greatly to our success throughout her 14-year tenure," a Fox News Media spokesperson told Just The News. "We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington.”
