Trump claims US 'way ahead' of China in artificial intelligence race
Trump claimed the U.S. is number one in cryptocurrency, AI and prediction markets and that China is ranked number two.
President Donald Trump said Wednesday during a White House event with technology leaders that the United States is "way ahead" of China on artificial intelligence.
Trump claimed the U.S. is number one in cryptocurrency, AI and prediction markets and that China was trailing the country in those fields.
“We're ensuring that America remains the undisputed leader, not only in Bitcoin and crypto, but also technologies like prediction markets, artificial intelligence, and much more," he said. "Artificial intelligence, we're way ahead of number 2. Number 2 is China, and I never want to underestimate China, but right now we're ahead."
The comment comes ahead of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's Innovation Advisory Committee's first meeting in Washington, D.C.
Representatives from major cryptocurrency companies and financial institutions, including Coinbase, Ripple, and Nasdaq, were in attendance, along with Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins and CFTC Chair Mike Selig.
