Trump divulges background of Gaza peace plan: 'The whole world came together'

The president announced earlier Wednesday that both sides of the war have agreed to the first phase of the peace plan, which is expected to ultimately end the war in Israel. The first phase is expected to include the release of hostages.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday night gave background on how a peace deal between Israel and Hamas came together, and said the deal was a global effort because it took many countries to pull off.

The president announced earlier Wednesday that both sides of the war have agreed to the first phase of the peace plan, which is expected to ultimately end the war in Israel. The first phase is expected to include the release of hostages.

Trump said he had help within his own administration from his son-in-law Jared Kushner and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, who recently traveled to Egypt to help with the negotiations, but also from the global community. 

“The whole world came together, to be honest," Trump told Fox News' Sean Hannity. "So many countries that you wouldn’t have even thought of, they came together. The world has come together around this deal ... So many countries that you would not have thought of have wired their best wishes and their commitment to do whatever is necessary. The countries surrounding have all signed up .. It’s been really an amazing period of time and so great for Israel. So great for Muslims, for the Arab countries. So great for this country, for the United States of America.”

"This is more than Gaza. This is peace in the Middle East," he also said. "That's an incredible thing."

Trump additionally touted the effects of his tariffs, stating that the tariffs have "brought peace to the world," and that he leveraged the tariffs and threatened to withhold U.S. business with foreign countries if they did not end their conflicts.

The president said he believes the hostages, including the bodies of deceased Israeli hostages, will be returned to Israel on Monday. Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu said he will bring the agreement to his Cabinet on Thursday.
