President Trump on Saturday invoked the 18th-century wartime Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to speed up deporting five Venezuelans linked to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.
Earlier on Saturday, U.S. District Judge James Boasberg blocked the Trump administration’s expected plan to deport the Venezuelan nationals under the AEA.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) had filed a motion against Trump's plan speed up the removal of the illegal immigrants using the AEA.
The ACLU argued that Trump's order could lead to deportations of Venezuelans not connected to the Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua.
