President Donald Trump on Wednesday nominated Justice Department official and former defense attorney Emil Bove to fill a federal Appeals Court vacancy.

Bove has served as the face of the second Trump administration in some of the Justice Department's most controversial decisions recently, including dismissing corruption charges against Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

The former attorney, who spent nearly 10 years as a U.S. prosecutor for the Southern District of New York, also represented Trump in two of his criminal cases that stemmed from his first term in office.

Bove, who will still need to be confirmed by the Senate, was nominated to sit on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, which oversees cases from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, per Fox News.

"Emil is SMART, TOUGH, and respected by everyone," Trump posted to Truth Social. "He will end the Weaponization of Justice, restore the Rule of Law, and do anything else that is necessary to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN."

Attorney General Pam Bondi also celebrated the nomination, describing Bove as an "indispensable partner at the Department of Justice" who has "worked tirelessly from day one as we make America safe again."

"It is hard to imagine going to work without Emil, but our loss here at DOJ will be the country’s gain!" she posted to X.

Trump still needs to fill one more vacancy on the Third Circuit.
