President Donald Trump will personally present the World Cup championship trophy to the winning team in New Jersey next month.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed the plan for Trump to present the trophy during an appearance on Fox News, saying “[w]e will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course."

Trump's participation in the event comes as the American men's soccer team is performing well, having defeated both Paraguay and Australia in its first two matches.

The U.S. last hosted the World Cup in 1994. Though soccer does not rank among the most popular sports in the United States, it has slowly acquired a growing following and U.S. success in the tournament has attracted additional interest.
