Trump promises not to let Israel annex the West Bank

President Donald Trump promised Thursday that he would not let Israel annex the West Bank as part of its war with Hamas, even as Israel conducts a ground offensive in Gaza City.
The Israeli military started its maneuvers to occupy Gaza City earlier this month as part of its larger operation to seize control of the Gaza Strip. Israeli leaders have floated the possible annexation after several European countries moved to recognize a Palestinian state.
Trump was asked about his views on the possible annexation during an executive order signing in the Oval Office, to which he promised not to let it happen.
He also said he spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about annexation and was firm in his opposition.
"I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank," Trump told reporters. "It’s not going to happen. ... It’s been enough. It’s time to stop now.”
The comment comes after Trump assured Arab leaders that he would not allow the annexation of the West Bank. Trump also outlined a 21-point plan for peace in the Middle East this week to Arab leaders gathered in New York for the United Nations General Assembly.
