President Trump will sign an executive order Thursday to carry out his pledge to abolish the Department of Education, according to a summary of the order obtained by Politico.
The media outlet said GOP governors Greg Abbott of Texas, Mike Braun of Indiana, Ron DeSantis of Florida and Mike DeWine of Ohio are expected to be at the signing ceremony.
The order directs Secretary Linda McMahon to "take all necessary steps to facilitate" the closure of the agency and "return education authority to the States" while also ensuring it keeps delivering services, programs, and benefits, except for those promoting diversity, equity and inclusion or gender ideology, according to Politico.
