Trump signs order designating Antifa as a domestic terror organization
The order comes after Trump declared last week that he would designate the group as a "domestic terrorist organization," and that he would consider giving the same name to other far-left groups, though he did not specify the other groups.
President Donald Trump on Monday afternoon formally signed an executive order that designates Antifa as a domestic terror organization, fulfilling a promise he made last week following violent anti-ICE protests and the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Antifa is considered a militant far-left nationwide movement that has been responsible for widespread protests that have morphed into riots in cities like Los Angeles. There is no evidence directly linking suspected Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson to Antifa, but his bullets were engraved with anti-fascist rhetoric.
The group also trains young Americans and is known for shielding the identities of its members, its funding sources and its official operations, Trump wrote in the executive order. It additionally coerces young Americans to engage in the illegal behavior.
"Because of the aforementioned pattern of political violence designed to suppress lawful political activity and obstruct the rule of law, I hereby designate Antifa as a 'domestic terrorist organization,'" Trump wrote. "All relevant executive departments and agencies shall utilize all applicable authorities to investigate, disrupt, and dismantle any and all illegal operations -- especially those involving terrorist actions -- conducted by Antifa or any person claiming to act on behalf of Antifa."
The order comes after Trump declared last week that he would designate the group as a "domestic terrorist organization," and that he would consider giving the same name to other far-left groups, though he did not specify the other groups.
Trump additionally said last week that he has talked with Attorney General Pam Bondi about bringing federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act charges against some of the far-left organizations and their donors.
