Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday urged billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk to support the Republican Party and change it from within instead of creating his own independent one, as rumors float that Musk is quietly ending his third-party plan.

Musk first floated an independent "America Party" earlier this year after he publicly split with the Trump administration over items in President Donald Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill." The party formally launched last month.

The billionaire is now reportedly considering ending the third party in order to support Vance's expected presidential campaign in 2028, according to the Wall Street Journal. Vance is considered Trump's most likely successor.

“My advice to Elon would be to try to fix the Republican Party," Vance said on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle" TV show. "Try to push it in your own way. Disagree with me all you want, disagree with the president of the United States, but don’t pretend that you can make a big difference with a third party.

“I think Elon would make a much bigger difference if he stayed loyal to President Trump’s Republican Party, and if he had disagreements, express those disagreements from the inside as opposed from the outside," the vice president added.

Musk has denied reports that he is considering backing off of the third-party track, stating on X that "nothing the [Wall Street Journal] says should ever be thought of as true.”

Musk most recently made waves in Republican politics after he served as Trump's chief of the Department of Government Efficiency, which was tasked with cutting down on federal spending in the government.
