White House criticizes former first lady Jill Biden for allegedly covering up husband's health
The former president was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer earlier this month, but faced questions surrounding his mental acuity while still in the White House.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday slammed former first lady Jill Biden for allegedly hiding her husband's declining health while he was in the Oval Office.
The comment comes as Senate Republicans call on approximately two dozen former White House aides to answer questions regarding former President Joe Biden's health. The former president was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer earlier this month, but faced questions surrounding his mental acuity while still in the White House.
Leavitt told reporters during a press conference that she felt the former first lady owed an explanation to the public regarding the true state of her husband's mental decline, and should also be called to testify in front of the Senate.
“Frankly, the former first lady should certainly speak up about what we saw in regard to her husband and when she saw it and what she knew," Leavitt said. "Because I think anybody looking ... at the videos and photo evidence of Joe Biden with your own eyes and a bit of little common sense can see this is a clear cover-up and Jill Biden was definitely complicit in that cover-up."
Leavitt went on to claim that the former first lady continued to mislead the public about her husband's health during her appearance on "The View" earlier this month.
"Frankly, it’s insulting, and she needs to answer for it," Leavitt said.
The former first lady has maintained that her husband's mental acuity did not slip in the final year of his administration.
Jill Biden has not been called to testify so far, but Senate Republicans have requested testimony from former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Biden’s former Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, among others.
