White House honors Charlie Kirk on 'National Day of Remembrance'
The post comes after President Donald Trump designated Oct. 14 as the "National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk," last year.
The White House honored late Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk in a social media post Wednesday, as part of a "National Day of Remembrance" for Kirk, which comes on the late conservative leader's birthday.
Kirk, who was a rising star in the conservative movement, was assassinated last year during a rally at a college in Utah.
"Today, on what would have been his 33rd birthday, our Nation honors the loving memory of Charlie Kirk - a father, husband, Christian martyr, & titan of the conservative movement," the White House shared on X.
"We renew our resolve to always defend our principles of truth, faith, and the open exchange of ideas."
Kirk's wife Erika Kirk, who has since taken over as the CEO of Turning Point USA, also honored her late-husband in a post on X.
"I thank God for your life.
For the years He entrusted you to this earth…even though it didn’t deserve you," she wrote. "For the love that He allowed me to know so deeply as your wife. You always had a way of making even the ordinary moments in life feel like a glimpse of Heaven.
"To that, and much more babe, I’ll forever celebrate you," she continued. "How blessed I am that God gave me a once in a lifetime love that I will spend the rest of my life thanking Him for ...
Happy birthday baby."
