White House trashes Michael Moore statement on illegal migrants: 'Dumbest statement of the year'

“Who’s really being removed by ICE tonight?” Moore wrote in the post. “The child who would’ve discovered the cure for cancer in 2046? The 9th grade nerd who would’ve stopped that Astroid that’s gonna hit us in 2032?”

The White House on Wednesday slammed filmmaker Michael Moore for suggesting that illegal migrants who are being deported under the new administration could potentially cure cancer or help cities and towns rebuild playgrounds.

The Trump administration has cracked down on illegal immigration in its first month in office, including by deporting illegal migrants who commit more serious crimes than being in the country illegally, such as migrants who rape and murder Americans.

Moore made his observation in a blog post on his website Tuesday, where he claimed that the migrants arrested by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could be powerful people someday.

“Who’s really being removed by ICE tonight?” he wrote in the post. “The child who would’ve discovered the cure for cancer in 2046? The 9th grade nerd who would’ve stopped that Astroid that’s gonna hit us in 2032?”

White House deputy press secretary Kush Desai rejected the hypothetical in a statement, stating it was a "strong contender for dumbest statement of the year."

“Michael Moore is free to visit the quantum computing and particle physics labs that MS-13, TDA, and the cartels are now going to have to set up back home in El Salvador, Venezuela, and Mexico," he said. "The Trump Administration will remain focused on putting our own citizens first by mass deporting illegal migrant rapists, murders, and other criminals out of American communities.”

The spokesman added that the "only thing more foolish than that statement are the politicians who oppose the deportations."
