NFL suspends two referees over unprofessional clashes with players
Seeman has been suspended without pay for two games after he appeared to curse at a player, and Hill has been suspended for one game after he yelled at a player for knocking him down.
The NFL suspended two officials Monday after they engaged in unprofessional behavior toward players during two separate games over the weekend.
The NFL suspended referee Adrian Hill and line judge Jeff Seeman over their unprofessional conduct. Seeman has been suspended without pay for two games after he appeared to curse at a player, and Hill has been suspended for one game after he yelled at a player for knocking him down.
Seeman's encounter took place Sunday in a match between the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. Seeman was caught on camera appearing to curse at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride after McBride expressed frustration that officials did not flag a play by the Giants. The Giants ultimately won the game.
“This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable,” NFL Players Association’s executive director JC Tretter said on social media along with a video clip of the incident. “Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard.”
Hill's incident occurred during Sunday's game between Minnesota and Miami when Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson accidentally collided with the referee, who then appeared to yell at Wilson afterward.
Wilson later downplayed the interaction, stating he apologized for knocking Hill down, according to Fox News.
"That was funny, honestly," Wilson said. "I ended up apologizing to him and explained the situation. He was cool about it. He understood what was going on. He just said he didn't want us fighting, me and [Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon]. He said he was just trying to break us up."
