President Trump posted several maps on social media that suggested a name change for Democrat-run New Mexico to "New American."

None of the posts appear to have an explanation for a name change, though Trump debunked an online hoax claiming he signed an executive order changing the state’s name.

The posts follow Trump signing an executive order last month that renamed Lake Ontario, which borders Canada to "Lake America," amid trade tensions with Canada. He has also changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

New Mexico Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Sunday accused Trump of trying to distract struggling working-class Americans.
