Darline Graham emotionally honors late-brother in Senate primary victory speech

South Carolina Sen. Darline Graham emotionally invoked her late-brother's memory Tuesday night as she accepted the Republican nomination for a full Senate term and thanked him for his legacy.

Graham defeated South Carolina GOP Rep. Ralph Norman for the party's nomination in a special runoff primary. Graham is serving the remainder of her late brother's Lindsey Graham's Senate term and is seeking a full term.

“I continue to miss Lindsey every day and there is still a big hole in my heart," Darline Graham said at her victory party. "But I know he’s looking down right now, very proud of everyone in this room ... Thank you, Lindsey, for your service to South Carolina and to this country. It’s just not the same without you here."

Lindsey Graham died unexpectedly last month after a "brief and sudden illness." 

Darline Graham thanked President Donald Trump for his endorsement in her race, highlighting the friendship he had with her brother. Trump reportedly pushed South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster to select Graham as her brother's replacement.

“Mr. President, Lindsey truly loved you and viewed you as one of his closest friends," she said. "I appreciate that bond and appreciate all that you’ve done for our country. Our victory would not have been possible without you, and we are truly grateful. South Carolina is truly Trump country.”

Graham will now face Democrat Annie Andrews in November.
