Broadway actor exits Tony Award-winning 'Hadestown' after comments on transgender people

Actor Geno Segers is leaving the Broadway cast of "Hadestown" after activists expressed outrage at his casting following remarks he'd made in social media postings concerning transgender people. 

In videos that were posted on Segers' YouTube channel, the actor criticized allowing biological men to compete in women's sports and the use of preferred pronouns, and he disputed claims that transgender people are oppressed. 

"I’m not against anyone living out their lives the way they want, but I am against their rights superseding the rights of other people," he said in one of the videos, People reported. The videos have since been deleted. 

Days after Segers was announced as playing Hades in the Tony Award-winning musical, a representative told People that the producers and Segers had "mutually agreed" to part ways. No reason for the decision was given.
