Trump promotes attorney Will Scharf to White House counsel replaces outgoing Warrington

President Donald Trump announced over the weekend that his new White House counsel will be Will Scharf, who will replace the outgoing David Warrington.

Sharf, now the White House staff secretary, will begin in hs new post on Sept.1, when Warrington leaves for the private sector, according to the Associated Press. 

The duties of the White House counsel are primarily to advise on legal and policy questions related to the presidency. And the office is the primary White House contact for the Justice Department, also according to the news wire service. 

Scharf previously served as a federal prosecutor and represented him in a number of cases, including at the Supreme Court. And as the Trump-appointed head of the National Capital Planning Commission, he helped secure approval for the $400 million ballroom project, the Associated Press also reports.  

"Will is Tough, Strong, and Smart! He also loves our Country, and respects the Law," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Will Scharf will do a great job as White House Counsel!"
