At least six people were injured Thursday during a stabbing at a high school in Tacoma, Washington, according to authorities.

Five Foss High School students have been transported to a local hospital, along with a security guard. Four people are in serious condition and two people sustained non-life threatening injuries, a Tacoma Fire Department spokesperson told NBC News.

Officials said several of the victims were stabbed, but it was not immediately clear how many were stabbed versus other causes such as falling.

Authorities also confirmed a suspect is in custody, but details on the suspect were not immediately clear, including the gender of the suspect or if they were a student at the school. No motive has been identified.

The school said that classes and activities for Friday have been canceled in light of the incident.

"This incident is still under investigation and discipline have not yet been determined," the school said in a statement.
