An Ohio man who is accused of fatally running over a sheriff's deputy after he viewed body camera footage of a Cincinnati police officer shooting and killing his son was found guilty Friday of charges including murder.

In May 2025, Rodney L. Hinton had been called to the police station to watch body camera video as part of the Cincinnati Police Department's transparency policies. The video showed his 18-year-old son fatally shot by a Cincinnati police officer, NBC News reported.

Police had responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. Hinton's son, Ryan, was among the group of people in the allegedly stolen car. Some of them fled when police arrived, including Ryan Hinton.

In the video released by police, an officer exits his vehicle and points his gun at Ryan Hinton, who appeared to be running away. The officer fired four shots, according to police.

One officer seen in another video had stated that the suspect had a gun, and authorities said they recovered a gun from the scene.

Hours after viewing the video, Rodney Hinton allegedly drove his car into Hamilton County Special Deputy Larry Henderson.

During the trial, prosecutors claim that Hinton "tracked" Henderson when the deputy tried to move out of the way of his vehicle. Assistant Prosecutor Kate Burroughs said Hinton’s vehicle went from 0 to over 43 mph in seconds and the accelerator was pressed 93.3%.

Rodney Hinton's defense attorney argued that he struggled with mental health issues in the past and asked the jury to find him not guilty by reason of insanity.
