President Donald Trump will announce the construction of an enormous steel plant in Iowa on Monday, which is expected to bring thousands of jobs to the state.

The Mesabi Metallics plant is set to be the largest in U.S. history, bring 1,750 permanent jobs to the state, and employ between 5,000 and 6,000 workers in its construction, a White House official told Fox News.

The formal announcement is set for Monday afternoon and comes as Trump hopes to boost Republican midterm prospects by highlighting the administration's economic successes.

Iowa is a critical battleground state for control of the Senate. Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, is vying to replace the retiring Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, but faces a formidable challenger in Democratic candidate Josh Turek.
