Death toll climbs to 95 in massive flash flooding in Nepal, American tourists among hundreds missing

Flash floods in Nepal on Wednesday morning killed at least 95 people and left hundreds of others missing.

The massive flooding on the Bhotekoshi River also caused widespread damage to villages and infrastructure, according to the Associated Press.

Roughly 90 tourists, including 291 from countries such as India, the United States, the United Kingdom and Malaysia were reported missing. The flooding occurred along Nepal's Himalayan border with China's Tibet.

“We have asked both India and China to help us with the rescue efforts,” said Sasmit Pokharel, a spokesperson for the Nepali government, the wire services also reports.

A mudslide/avalanche, perhaps triggered by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake, set off the flooding.
