Man allegedly involved in Nashville hit-and-run is an illegal migrant released under Biden, DHS says
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said the Biden administration released Lopez Infante into the U.S. two years ago.
The Homeland Security Department says a man wanted in a hit-and-run in Nashville, Tennessee, last month is an illegal migrant from Venezuela.
The department confirmed the suspect, Tony Gebian Lopez Infante, who allegedly drove his Florida car into a 21-year-old man, illegally entered the U.S. in 2023.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said the Biden administration released Lopez Infante into the U.S. two years ago.
“An illegal alien who should never have been in the U.S. allegedly struck a young man who was celebrating his 21st birthday in a hit-and-run crash and is still at large," McLaughlin said in a statement. "The Biden Administration released this illegal alien into our country in 2023."
The man struck by the car was Zachary Carach, 21. McLaughlin said that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is praying for his recovery.
“Secretary Noem is praying for Zachary Carach’s quick recovery," McLaughlin said. "To report suspicious criminal activity or sightings of Lopez Infante, call 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) — help President Trump, Secretary Noem, and our brave law enforcement remove these public safety threats from our communities and make America safe again."
The Department of Homeland Security reports that Lopez Infante was apprehended at the border on Aug. 1, 2023 and was released 13 days later, to wait for removal proceedings. He was later ordered to be deported on Sep. 25, 2024.
