Man charged with felony for allegedly throwing sandwich at Border Patrol agent patrolling DC
"We’re going to back the police to the hilt," U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro said
A man has been charged with assaulting a federal police officer for throwing a sandwich at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer patrolling Washington, D.C., as part of President Trump's crime-crackdown initiative.
The incident occurred Sunday but became national news Wednesday after an X post by U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro.
“We’re going to back the police to the hilt. So there, stick your Subway sandwich somewhere else.”
President Trump on Monday officially ordered federal law enforcement officers to the city, saying that crime in the capital is rampant. He has also taken control of the D.C.'s police department and deployed the National Guard.
Court documents show the name of the man arrested as Sean Charles Dunn and alleged he approached a CBP officer and shouted expletives and saying, “Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city!,” according to CNN.
Afterward, Dunn crossed the street before returning and throwing a “sub-style sandwich” at the officer’s chest, according to police. Then, Dunn attempted to run away, but was arrested, per the court documents.
Dunn allegedly confessed while being processed by police, saying, “I did it. I threw a sandwich,” according to the documents.
There was no attorney listed for Dunn in court documents.
“Assaulting a law enforcement officer is a crime," the White House said.
