Missing Navy sailor found dead in Virginia, another sailor arrested in connection to case

A Navy sailor stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, was found dead on Monday and another sailor has been placed in pretrial confinement in connection with the case, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) revealed Tuesday.

Investigators said 21-year-old Culinary Specialist Seaman Angelina Petra Resendiz was reported missing on May 29 after last being seen at her barracks. The Virginia State Police also issued a critically missing adult alert after her disappearance.

Resendiz's body was discovered in a wooded area in Norfolk, and an unidentified sailor has been placed in confinement with charges pending. An investigation into Resendiz's death is still ongoing, per the Navy Times.

“NCIS remains committed to uncovering the facts surrounding the tragic death of Seaman Resendiz to ensure accountability and justice,” investigators said.

No cause of death has been released so far.
