President Donald Trump on Tuesday lamented the death toll from violent crime in Chicago over the holiday weekend, vowing that the city would soon become safe due to his efforts.

"At least 54 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, 8 people were killed. The last two weekends were similar," he posted on Truth Social. "Chicago is the worst and most dangerous city in the World, by far. Pritzker needs help badly, he just doesn’t know it yet. I will solve the crime problem fast, just like I did in DC. Chicago will be safe again, and soon."

Trump has repeatedly suggested that he could replicate his crackdown on crime in Washington, D.C., in other cities. Last month, the president assumed federal control of the Metropolitan Police Department and deployed the National Guard in a bid to clean up the nation's capital and crack down on crime.
