Actress Gina Carano settles with Disney, Lucasfilm over 2021 firing, thanks Musk for his support
"I am excited to flip the page and move onto the next chapter. My desires remain in the arts, which is where I hope you will join me," she wrote. "Yes, I’m smiling."
Actress Gina Carano announced on social media that she has come to an agreement with Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company after she filed a lawsuit following her firing from the “Star Wars” spinoff “The Mandalorian” in 2021.
"I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm @disney @Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved. I hope this brings some healing to the force. I want to extend my deepest most heartfelt gratitude to Elon Musk, @elonmusk a man I’ve never met, who did this Good Samaritan deed for me in funding my lawsuit," she wrote on X on Thursday.
"Thank you Mr. Musk and @X for backing my case and asking for nothing in return. To my lawyers at @GSchaerr Schaerr|Jaffe who walked me through this unknown territory, thank you for your wisdom and guidance. I am humbled and grateful to God for His love and grace in this outcome," she also said.
Carano said she will continue moving forward in the arts.
"I’d like to thank you all for your unrelenting support throughout my life and career, you’ve been the heartbeat that has kept my story alive. I hope to make you proud. I am excited to flip the page and move onto the next chapter. My desires remain in the arts, which is where I hope you will join me," she wrote. "Yes, I’m smiling."
Disney and Lucasfilm released a statement following the agreement, saying they hope to work with her in the future.
“The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement, first reported by Variety.
“Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future,” the statement continued.
Carano's firing came after she posted a screenshot of a separate social media post about the political climate in 2021.
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children," read the post from 2021. "Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”
