Singer Billy Joel on Friday canceled his upcoming U.S. tour dates amid a diagnosis of a brain condition and subsequent treatment.

Joel, 76, was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, according to his announcement on social media, which is caused when cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside a person’s skull and presses on the brain. It mostly occurs in people who are 65 and older, is usually treatable, and can cause difficulty walking, incontinence and dementia, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

"This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance," the statement on Joel's Instagram account reads.

"Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period. Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health."

A statement from Joel was included, which reads, "I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding."
