Dallas Cowboys Marshawn Kneeland dies at 24, authorities say suicide
Kneeland was in his second year with the Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys second-year defensive end Marshawn Kneeland died Wednesday night, the team announced. He was 24.
Authorities say Kneeland appeared to have taken his own life following a late-night vehicle pursuit by police. He allegedly fled on foot after a crash and was found at about 1:30 a.m., according to The Guardian.
"I am shattered to confirm that my client and dearest friend Marshawn Kneeland passed away last night," said Kneeland’s agent, Jonathan Perzley. "I watched him fight his way from a hopeful kid at Western Michigan with a dream to being a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys. Marshawn poured his heart into every snap, every practice, and every moment on the field. To lose someone with his talent, spirit and goodness is a pain I can hardly put into words.”
Dallas used the 56th overall pick to select Kneeland out of Western Michigan in the second round of the 2024 draft. He recorded 13 sacks and three forced fumbles across 38 games with Western Michigan.
Kneeland scored the Cowboys’ first touchdown in Monday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, recovering a blocked punt in the end zone.
“Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization,” the Cowboys said in a social media post. “Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.”
