Olivia Rodrigo retaliates with contest after Trump admin used song in ICE deportation video
The singer said after DHS's video promoting deportations was released in November of 2025 that she is "really sad to be in a country that thinks that’s OK."
After the Trump administration used one of Olivia Rodrigo’s songs in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportation video, the pop star partnered with a nonprofit organization to promote civic participation in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.
The contest launched on Wednesday and offers fans the chance to win VIP tickets to her Daisy Chain Fields festival. HeadCount, an organization that partners with musicians and music events to promote American civic participation, is running the sweepstakes. Fans can enter by clicking one of three buttons to check their voter registration status, explore election information or start the voter registration process.
No individual is required to register to vote in order to qualify for the competition, HeadCount says on the page in fine print.
All festival expenses — including hotel and travel accommodations — will be covered for the contest’s winner.
Rodrigo told Dazed in June that she was “just scrolling” on her phone when she realized DHS had used her song “all-american bitch” in a promotional video urging undocumented immigrants to voluntarily leave the United States — "LEAVE NOW and self-deport” — without the singer’s permission.
“It was so deeply disturbing to see that propaganda, and the fact it was my song in there made me feel even more enraged,” she said. “What they’re doing is so awful and barbaric and cruel. I am really sad to be in a country that thinks that’s OK.”
The event's partner organizations include Planned Parenthood, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, the Center for Reproductive Rights, the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous and more.
