The family of heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne paid their respects, along with numerous fans, in a funeral procession through his hometown of Birmingham, England, on Wednesday.
Osbourne died last week at age 76, just weeks after a farewell concert, where he reunited with his band, Black Sabbath. He announced in 2020 that he had Parkinson's disease and had suffered other health problems in recent years, including complications from injuries sustained from a fall in 2019.
The funeral procession headed down Birmingham's Broad Street to a canal bridge named in honor of Black Sabbath, which features a bench with life-size cutouts of the band's four founding members – Osbourne, Terry "Geezer" Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward, CBS News reported.
Osbourne's widow, Sharon, stopped at the bench and laid flowers at the growing memorial around it, with fans watching from behind barriers. The couple's two youngest children, Kelly and Jack, accompanied her. They starred with their parents in the reality show "The Osbournes," which aired in the early 2000s.
“Ozzy was more than a music legend – he was a son of Birmingham,” Lord Mayor of Birmingham Zafar Iqbal said, The Associated Press reported. “We know how much this moment will mean to his fans.”
Osbourne, Butler, Iommi, and Ward were recently awarded the Freedom of the City in recognition of their services to Birmingham, where they started Black Sabbath in 1968.
