R. Kelly hospitalized after alleged prison overdose
R&B singer R. Kelly was sent to the hospital this week after an alleged drug overdose in prison.
Disgraced R&B singer Robert Sylvester Kelly, known professionally as R. Kelly, has been hospitalized after allegedly overdosing in prison.
Kelly is serving a 30-year prison sentence following a 2021 federal court conviction for racketeering, having sex with underage girls and violating the Mann Act, a sex0trafficking law.
The 58-year Kelly was later found guilty on sex crime charges, and he is now serving his sentence in a North Carolina prison.
Kelly’s lawyers allege the overdose occurred on medication that had been given to him by the prison staff, according to USA Today.
The newspaper also reported that prior to the overdose, Kelly was placed in solitary confinement by the prison staff on June 10 “against his will.” This was after his legal team filed a motion for an emergency release from prison, claiming that Kelly’s life was being threatened.
His lawyers also alleged that prison officials have been plotting to have him killed by another inmate.
Kelly attorney Beau Brindley has reportedly requested that the courts move his client to home detention for his safety. He has also publicly confirmed that he is seeking a pardon from President Trump on behalf of his client.
