Trump official says over 50 countries want to negotiate with US on tariffs
Trump announced tariffs on multiple countries last week, resulting in global markets taking a hit.
White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett says over 50 countries want to negotiate with the U.S. on tariffs.
“So, the fact is, the countries are angry and retaliating and, by the way, coming to the table," he said on ABC News on Sunday. "I got a report from the [U.S. Trade Representative] last night that more than 50 countries have reached out to the president to begin a negotiation."
He said that he doubted the American consumer would be impacted too much by the tariffs President Donald Trump recently announced.
"I don't think that you're going to see a big effect on the consumer in the U.S. because I do think that the reason why we have a persistent, long-run trade deficit [is because] these people have very inelastic supply," Hassett said. "They've been dumping goods into the country in order to create jobs, say, in China."

"Countries from all over the World are talking to us," Trump wrote on TRUTH Social Monday morning. "Tough but fair parameters are being set."
