Trump says tariff deal with China could come within three to four weeks
Trump told reporters Thursday that China has been reaching out "a lot" since the two countries began raising tariffs on each other.
President Donald Trump is suggesting the U.S. and China could have tariffs within the next few weeks.
Trump said Thurday that China has been reaching out "a lot" since the two countries began raising tariffs on each other.
"I would think over the next three or four weeks, I think maybe the whole thing could be concluded," he said, according to Fox News.
Earlier this month, Trump announced a slew of tariffs on multiple countries, but put a 90-day pause on them due to many reaching out for negotiations.
The U.S. kept tariffs on China and increased them from 104% to 125%. China recently vowed to increase tariffs on U.S. goods from 84% to 125%.
Trump said if a deal with China wasn't reached, everything would be fine.
"At a certain point, if we don't make a deal, we'll just set a limit," Trump said. "We'll set a tariff. We'll set some parameters, and we'll say, 'Come in and shop.' They always have a right not to do it, so they can say, 'Well, we don't want it, so we're not going to shop there. We're not going to shop in the store of America.' We have something that nobody else has, and that's the American consumer."
