Kamala Harris to speak at Ground Zero on 9/11 anniversary

Vice President Kamala Harris will appear at Ground Zero on Sunday to mark the 21st anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Harris will attend the annual ceremony in New York with Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, according to the New York Daily News. President Joe Biden, meanwhile, will travel to Shanksville, Pa., to speak at the crash site of Flight 93.

New York was the site of the deadliest terrorist attack in history when Islamic jihadis with the extremist group Al-Qaeda hijacked two planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks, alongside many more who were injured.

A third plane hit the Pentagon while the fourth crashed in a field in Pennsylvania following a heroic effort by its passengers to reclaim the aircraft from the extremists. In the aftermath, the United States launched its invasion of Afghanistan after the Taliban government refused to hand over Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and other terrorists operating within the country.
