South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has requested state investigators probe ActBlue and other online political fundraising platforms.

Wilson wrote in a letter on Thursday to State Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel, asking "agents be assigned to conduct a preliminary inquiry into this matter."

This letter follows an earlier one that Wilson sent in August 2024 over concerns about fraudulent activity involving ActBlue. The attorney general's office was informed of allegations of possible "smurfing," where large donations are disguised as multiple smaller ones.

"Nonprofit and political entities must be fully transparent to reassure the public about the integrity of our electoral process," Wilson said in a statement on Monday.
