AB Hernandez, a male athlete who identifies as a girl competing for Jurupa Valley High School, won first place in the girls' high jump and triple jump at the state championship on Saturday, which was held at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Clovis, California, according to Fox News.

The outlet reported that the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) changed rules days before the event so that females who finished behind the male would be rewarded based on where they finished among other females.

Protesters on both sides of the transgender debate over males competing in female sports were spotted outside of the venue.

Trump signed an executive order on Feb. 5 to keep men out of women's sports but some states with Democratic governors haven't followed the order.
