Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has met with the heads of major U.S. banks this week to discuss cybersecurity risks that were identified by Anthropic's Mythos AI model.

The special gathering Thursday included Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and the heads of Bank of America, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo, according to Bloomberg

The meeting, which was arranged on short notice, signals a growing concern over a new type of cyberattack facing the financial industry.

Anthropic's Mythos is a powerful system that the AI firm claims is capable of identifying and exploiting vulnerabilities in operating systems and web browsers, when a user directs them to.

Anthropic has released the model to only a few major technology and finance firms, including Amazon.com, Apple Inc., and JPMorgan Chase & Co.

It's part of what's called "Project Glasswing," which is working to address the vulnerabilities before similar models can be used by hackers.
