New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani pushed back on President Trump's criticism of him, following his projected victory in the primary election, saying that the president should "learn about my actual policies."

Mamdani made his comments on ABC News on Wednesday after Trump criticized him earlier that day. The state legislator is the presumptive Democratic mayoral candidate for New York City, after former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo appeared to concede the election following his second-place finish at the end of the first round of ballots in the ranked-choice voting election.

"It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor," Trump posted on Truth Social. "We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous.

"He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him," he continued. "Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!"

Mamdani responded in an interview on Wednesday, saying, “You know, this is not the first time that President Trump is going to comment on myself, and I encourage him — just like I encourage every New Yorker — to learn about my actual policies to make the city affordable.”

A Democratic socialist, Mamdani has promised on the campaign trail to free rent, make buses faster and free, and open supermarkets run by the city.

Mamdani also said of Trump, “He ran a presidential campaign, in part, speaking about the necessity of making groceries cheaper and to make cost of living more navigable for so many. He’s shown himself uninterested and unable to deliver on that.”

“If that is ever something he changes his mind on, then that’s somewhere that I would be willing to work with him,” he added.

“But if he continues to focus on persecuting political enemies and on trying to detain and disappear New Yorkers, be it on the basis of their documentation or their sexual orientation or their politics, that is someone that I will fight time and again,” Mamdani said.
