The city of Palm Beach, Florida, announced on Thursday that it would increase security around former President Donald Trump's resort of Mar-a-Lago and close down roads to outside traffic in the aftermath of an assassination attempt on the former president last week.

Trump was wounded in his right ear during the shooting at one of his Pennsylvania rallies on Saturday afternoon, which also resulted in the deaths of one attendee and the gunman. Two others were also injured, but are recovering in the hospital.

The increased security around Trump's Florida home comes as the Secret Service faces stronger scrutiny after it failed to prevent the attempted assassination. The street closure will go into effect on Saturday, July 20, at 4 p.m. Eastern.

"Due to enhanced security measures involving Mar a Lago and U.S. Secret Service-protected persons, South Ocean Boulevard will be closed to through traffic starting at approximately 4 p.m.," the city said in a statement. "This closure will be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until the November general election at a minimum ... We will update the community with further details on this closure as they become available."

The Secret Service did not state how or if it will adjust its security screenings to keep the former president safe, but Trump and the new Republican vice presidential nominee Ohio Sen. JD Vance will hold their first event indoors.

“We have been providing security with the Secret Service all along,” Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw told GulfLive.com. “We are in contact with them and upon President Trump’s return to Florida, we will ramp up security to where we need to be — we’re very good at doing what we’re doing.”
